Scope, Purpose, Objectives

1.    Scope
Membership of the Group is open to any company involved in natural gas storage in the UK, whether as owner, developer or operator.
 
2.    Purpose
As the principal representative body for gas storage companies, the Group’s main purpose will be to provide a forum for discussion and a means of initiating and undertaking collective action, where appropriate, with regard to the development and operation of gas storage facilities, recognising the benefits such facilities can bring to the efficient and effective operation of the UK gas market.
 
3.    Objectives
•    To represent and promote members’ interests in respect of matters that impact gas storage operators - including technical, legislative, regulatory, planning, environmental, safety and gas quality issues - to Ofgem, the DTI and other stakeholders
•    To keep members informed on all matters relevant to the gas industry as a whole and gas storage in particular, identifying key issues as they arise and coordinating an industry response.
 
4.    Main Activities/Services
•    To meet on a regular basis – typically every six weeks - so that members can exchange views on the key issues that are impacting the storage business and co-ordinate actions as necessary
•    To arrange for relevant representatives from Ofgem, DTI, HSE and other organisations to give presentations and answer questions
•    To establish an annual business plan with key activities identified and an agreed work programme, which may include the establishment of work groups to complete specific tasks
•    To respond to DTI and Ofgem consultations on behalf of storage operators (eg re Energy Review and Security of Supply)
•    To enable representatives to meet with and present the collective views of the group to Government, its agencies and other organisations etc
•    To lobby on behalf of storage operators for changes in regulation and taxation that would benefit the storage industry
•    To liaise with interested parties – eg gas shippers, the National Transmission System and Distribution Networks - on issues of common interest.
•    To circulate to members’ relevant information by email in such form, at such frequency and on such issues as they may request.
