Scope, Purpose, Objectives

1.    Scope

Membership of this group is open to companies who supply the components for the UK’s gas infrastructure, from pipes and fittings for the National Transmission System through to the connection fittings for gas meters. Their customers in the UK include the gas transportation companies – National Grid, Wales & West, Scottish & Southern and Northern Gas Networks, along with their contractors, and other manufacturers in the supply chain.

2.    Purpose

Manufacturers are constantly developing new products to meet the demands and challenges of a gas industry which is changing rapidly, not only in the UK but throughout the world. As the principal representative body for Distribution & Transmission equipment companies, the Group’s main purpose is be to provide a forum for discussion and a means of initiating and undertaking collective action, where appropriate, with regard to the development of distribution and transmission equipment products.

3.    Objectives
To provide a forum for discussion and a means for initiating and undertaking collective action, to develop and promote the sale of distribution & transmission equipment.

To represent and promote members’ interests in respect of technical, legislative, regulatory, marketing, quality, environmental and skills issues.

To keep members informed on all matters relevant to the gas industry as a whole and
specifically the Distribution and Transmission Equipment sector.

4.    Main Activities

Members meet on a regular basis to network and discuss matters affecting their companies.  

Members hear from representatives of other companies or organisations impacting on the operation of their business, invited to give presentations and answer questions.

Members can give presentations to the group on non-competitive issues such as safety, new products or organisation profiles.

Establishing key activities and agreeing a work programme.

Responding to BERR and Ofgem consultations as a collective industry voice

To enable representatives to meet with and present the collective views of the group to Government, its agencies and other organisations etc

To liaise with distribution networks and others, such as their contractors, who are purchasing distribution and transmission equipment, on issues of common interest.

To make recommendations for modification or enhancement, where appropriate to the existing and proposed regulatory and legislative framework.

To establish ‘expert groups’ as required, to complete specific tasks as directed by the
members.

To hold separate meetings, when required, to cover topics pertinent to distribution and transmission manufacturers.
