2009-Current Camden House, Warwick Road, Kenilworth
The Society has been based at five separate locations during its first century:
1974-2009 56 and 36, Holly Walk, Leamington Spa
In 1974, the Society decided to move to Leamington Spa to be near the centre of gravity of its member companies. Initially, the Society occupied leased premises at 56, Holly Walk.
Such was the prominence of the SBGI that the Chairman and Deputy Chairmen of the adjacent West Midlands and East Midlands Regions of British Gas attended the opening ceremony, where the Mayor of Leamington Spa welcomed the Society to the town.
When the lease was expiring in 1978 the Society began a search for freehold premises. This was achieved by raising £36,000 from members, who forward-bought their annual subscriptions for up to three years. This avoided the Society having to take on a mortgage.
The Society moved to 36, Holly Walk in 1979/80 and continues to occupy these freehold premises.
In 1983/4, the Society extended the rear of the building to provide dining facilities. Further improvements and alterations have continued from time to time.
In the late 1990’s the Society investigated the question of moving to new premises but it did not prove to be an economic option unless associated with other gas industry organisations.
