SECRETARIES, MANAGERS AND DIRECTORS

In its first century, there have been only six “directors” of the Society, with the first two spanning the period 1906-1962. Initially, the role was primarily supportive, but increasingly the “director” has taken a pro-active role and now operates in a CEO capacity.

SBGI OFFICES AND ADMINISTRATION

The Society has been based at five separate locations during its first century.

INTERNAL WORKINGS OF THE SOCIETY

There were thirty six founder members of the Society paying an annual subscription of 2 guineas (£2.10), although by 1908 membership had grown to sixty six.

DEVELOPING PROFESSIONALISM AND RELATIONSHIPS

An early role of the Society was developing relationships within the gas industry and using these to solve problems and develop professionalism. This has taken many forms across the last century.

POLITICAL INFLUENCE

Since its formation, the Society has sought to influence Government, opinion formers and influential people in the gas industry. A handful of examples will need to suffice for this extensive activity.
