The First Century 1905-2005
The SBGI, fomerly known as the Society of British Gas Industries, has been active for over 100 years in meeting the needs of its members. During that time changes within the political and economic environment have had a major impact on the development of the SBGI, including World Wars, the subsequent hardship, nationalisation, privatisation, liberalisation, technical change and the joining of what was then known as the European Economic Community.
To mark its Centenary in 2005 the SBGI published a short history, researched and written by Past President Terry Pinchin. This looks at each era - defined in terms of common threads - such as “1914-1918 The Great War Years”, as well as themes such as “SBGI Offices and Administration”
