Consumer Minister Gareth Thomas met this week with enforcement bodies and consumer groups to announce intentions to tackle rogue traders.
The Government is determined to boost consumer confidence during a tough economic climate. One of the focuses of the forthcoming White Paper will be to strengthen Trading Standards powers.
Last year Consumer Direct received more than 80,000 complaints about builders, plumbers, electricians, decorators and other traders working on people's homes.
Speaking at the event, Consumer Minister, Gareth Thomas, said:
"The vast majority of traders in this sector are reputable, but they are let down by the small minority of untrustworthy businesses who can cause damage to the industry by exploiting consumers - often causing huge distress or financial misery.
